By New Generation for Africa Project
Every year, May 28 is observed as World Menstrual Hygiene Day, a global movement to break taboos and raise awareness around menstrual health and hygiene. This year, the New Generation for Africa Project (NGAP) as part of its ReachCampaign marked the day by reaching 300 students at the Ministry of Health Basic School in Korle-Bu-Accra, Ghana, with menstrual health education, dignity kits, and open dialogue.

Why It Matters
In many parts of Africa, menstruation is still treated with silence and stigma—which leads to school absenteeism, poor hygiene practices, and emotional distress for adolescent girls. NGAP exists to challenge this narrative by providing education, resources, and support to ensure no girl is left behind because of her period.
What We Did
Our team, led by Mrs. Afua Frimpong and Miss Vanessa Hammond, introduced NGAP’s mission to the students before handing over to the session’s facilitator, Miss Hannah Grant.
Her approach was interactive and student-centered, covering:
✅ What menstruation is✅ Common symptoms like cramps, fatigue, mood swings, cravings✅ Safe use and frequent changing of sanitary towels✅ Simple ways to relieve pain (e.g., warm water, painkillers)✅ Proper disposal and hygiene practices✅ How to track one’s menstrual cycle✅ Why menstrual hygiene day is celebrated

“Your period is not a curse—it’s a part of womanhood. And being a woman is powerful.”— Miss Hannah Grant, Facilitator
Student questions poured in, and with each one answered, stigma faded and confidence grew.
Beyond Education: We Provided Support
To make the day even more impactful, NGAP provided:
🎁 300 sanitary pads🧼 Toiletries: toilet rolls, soap, disinfectant🍪 Refreshments: drinks and biscuits🏅 Participation prizes to encourage student involvement
These small tokens reminded students that they matter—and that their health is a priority.

Impact at a Glance

Dozens of direct questions answered
